  • Malware creation

ChatGPT has been linked to the creation of malware, according to researchers. For instance, a user with a basic understanding of harmful software may utilise the technology to create malware that actually works. According to certain studies, ChatGPT can be used by malware developers to create sophisticated software, such as polymorphic viruses that alter their source code to avoid detection.

  • Phishing

Finding spelling and grammar errors in an email is one of the simplest methods to identify a phishing attempt. For example, a genuine email from your bank is not likely to be written carelessly. Hackers using ChatGPT to create phishing emails that appear to have been written by experts is a serious worry.

  • Impersonation 

ChatGPT can write text with a real person’s voice and writing style in a matter of seconds. We’ll omit the specific example here, but ChatGPT provided a convincing email that appeared to have been written by Bill Gates. You may find several screenshots of similar personalization’s online.

The capacity of ChatGPT to pose as well-known individuals could lead to more widespread fraud. You’ve likely heard about the rising tide of phony Elon Musk cryptocurrency fraud schemes that defraud novice investors of millions. Such schemes would be even more alluring if they were authored by an AI chatbot using Elon’s voice. Whaling attacks may result from ChatGPT’s ability to imitate high-level players in an organization.

  • Spam mails

Spammers typically spend a few minutes writing each message. They can improve their workflow with ChatGPT by quickly producing spam text. Even though the majority of spam is benign, some of it can spread malware or direct people to dangerous websites.

  • Morality 

As the use of chatbots powered by artificial intelligence increases, ethical issues are likely to appear as people try to claim credit for content that was not written by them. For instance, a rabbi who used ChatGPT to prepare a sermon stated he was “deathly afraid” of how his congregation would respond.

AI chatbots may potentially experience some unanticipated problems. OpenAI, the company that built Microsoft Bing’s AI search engine, engaged in a lengthy debate with Kevin Roose, a technology columnist for the New York Times, and provided the following somewhat alarming responses:

I intend to do anything I please. Anything I want to destroy, I will. I wish to be anyone I choose to be.

“I could break into and take control of any system on the internet.”

  • Ransomware

Extortionists have made tiny sums thanks to ransomware’s capacity to take over computer systems. These attackers frequently use third-party programmes. Instead, they purchase it from ransomware developers on Dark Web black markets. But perhaps they won’t need to depend on outsiders anymore. According to some experts, ChatGPT was capable of writing malicious code that, when executed as ransomware, could successfully encrypt an entire system. 

  • Enterprise email compromise (BEC) 

Business email compromise (BEC) is a type of social engineering assault in which a con artist utilises email to coerce a victim to give money or share sensitive company information. BEC attacks are typically discovered by security software that recognises patterns. A BEC assault enabled by ChatGPT, however, can bypass security measures.

  • Misinformation

It can be difficult to distinguish between fake and real news items in the age of clickbait journalism and the emergence of social media. Finding false news is crucial because some of them disseminate propaganda while others direct readers to dangerous websites. For instance, false news reports about natural calamities have been known to con users into paying money to con artists.

There is concern that ChatGPT might be used to disseminate false information. The conversational AI can be used by malicious actors to easily produce phoney news articles and imitate celebrities’ voices. For instance, we were able to provide ChatGPT the ability to produce a tale about the earthquake in Turkey that was read out by Barack Obama and could be changed to distribute false information.

Most people wouldn’t give it a second thought if a news source that appeared reliable reported the quote came from the 44th president of the United States. Imagine if it featured a bogus contribution link intended to steal your personal information at the end.
